Hieronder het jurycommentaar.

Outstanding: Giovanni Rosso, Cerretta 2010, Serralunga d’Alba 18,5 (95 pts)

Founded in 1890, the estate has recently become one of the brightest emerging stars in Barolo. Owner Davide Rosso studied winemaking in France and is taking wines to a new level: all his wines speak clearly of Serralunga, and this Ceretta is typical of his line-up, characterised by noteworthy tannins and racy acidity when young, with mesmerising floral and sour red cherry aromas and flavours. Wines from the Cerretta cru are becoming more fashionable, as the site’s cooler microclimate yields lively wines with a bright fruit nuance that makes them very appealing. Rosso’s first vintage (2011) of his Tommaso Canale cuvée from the Vigna Rionda cru will also be released soon. This is sparking great excitement among Barolo aficionados as the cru is considered by many to be Barolo’s greatest.

Beautiful aromas and flavours of rich, ripe, red cherry, flinty red berries, and fresh flowers. Rich, dense and suave palate with sweet spice and marzipan accents. Long, glycerol finish with a hint of pepper.

Ripe and scented with notes of camphor, sage and cinnamon. Full body and intense flavours matched by bracing acidity and firm tannins. Lots of life on the palate – this should develop well.

Nuanced, rich, dark aroma’s and flavours. Very concentrated palate filled with dark chocolate notes.
